We are pleased to be standing 16 candidates across Coventry and 2 candidates in Exhall. We are fully committed to tackling local issues unlike the national parties who can often use these elections to promote their national agenda, especially with a general election coming up.
We are concerned that councillors are putting their own interests ahead of Coventry citizens. This is because the council has increased council tax by 4.9% while cutting council tax support by 10%. At the same time, councillors have approved an automatic increase to their allowances until 2028.
We are still the only party committed to creating a new housing company to build more social housing in the city. Unfortunately, the council is not doing enough to tackle the city’s housing crisis and has a narrow focus on temporary accommodation.
What’s more, complaints about mould and damp in social housing have increased however the true scale of the problem is still unknown. We have recently launched a campaign to let social housing tenants know how to complain about mould and damp because not enough people are reporting problems.
We are confident in winning our first seat in Binley and Willenhall with community champion Paul Cowley who came a strong second place last time, making the ward a clear contest between Labour and the Coventry Citizens Party. Over the past 5 years, Paul has been supporting local food banks and community groups as well as running a community shop in Willenhall.
